It can be difficult at times to drown out the chatter. How many times have you been offered wedding advice from family, friends and co-workers based on what they did at their wedding 3 months, 3 years or 20 years ago? I bet you would be a millionaire if you had $10 every time someone said “I didn’t use that vendor because {fill in the blank}” or “I did this at my wedding”. Sometimes, people have the best intentions but they forget it is your day not theirs. Plus, I believe a wedding should be unique to you and the elements that make your heart sing.
How do you deal with the unsolicited input? Listen and let them know you appreciate their advice. You may hear some info you can use and some you will have to file 13 it (trash it). You will have to learn to move forward with your day the way you envision. The exception to this rule is listening to your parents’ advice who may be partially or fully paying for your wedding. Even if you are footing the entire bill, your parents are an important part of the day and it is always nice to have their input included.
Soooooo, when you go to work next week and THAT co-worker runs to your desk with more unsolicited advice, what will you do?
