I hope you are enjoying this season’s Sunday School for Engaged Couples blog series. Today, our third lesson is about an important budget line item – stationery. Are you aware your stationery budget should include other paper goods such as menu cards, place cards, etc? And, just how much should you budget for stationery?
I’m excited to have my friend, Kim from paperKuts Studio today as our guest. Kim, who I affectionately named the Olivia Pope of paper is here to give us a lesson on what you should budget for stationery. Take it away Kim…..
Congratulations to all the ladies and gents who became engaged over the holiday! Hello! I am Kimberly Washington of paperKuts studio and I LOVE all things paper! We are in the midst of engagement season, which typically ends after Valentine’s Day. For all in the wedding industry, we can experience an increase in inquiries.
As a stationer, the question I get most often, relates to the cost of invitations. It is one of the hardest questions to answer because it is so subjective to your budget and what one desires. “It’s just paper and they are going to throw it away.” I hear that statement way too often. Your paper selection sets the tone for your upcoming nuptials.
For 2019, the average cost of a wedding is estimated to average from $32,000-$36,000! Planning resources state to allot 2-3% of your budget for paper goods. If we look at $34,000 as the budget, that’s around $1,020, using 3%. I agree, that’s a lot of cash, but most often, not enough. Realistically, you should budget around 4-8% (or more) and that’s around $2,040, using 6%. Other factors not taken in consideration are menu cards, place cards, thank you notes, save the dates, shower invites, wax seals, postage, printing methods, paper weight, accommodation cards…I could go on and on.
So, what do you want to convey with your stationery? I pride myself in cultivating an atmosphere that is comfortable, knowledgeable and most of all, FUN! There are so many beautiful selections out there. If budget is a non-factor or a four-letter word, I will assist in making the best choice that speaks to you.
