NikSaran Designs is a jewelry company and the brainchild of Principal Designer, Anika. The idea behind each design is to create classic, timeless and interesting pieces that give the wearer a regal feeling.
1. How did you derive at your business name?
“Its a combination of my first and middle names. Anika means goodness and Saran means joy. I want people to experience goodness and joy when they wear my designs. I love to see the big smile and sparkle in a person’s eyes when they see a piece that they really like.”

2. How did you get started in this business?
“I got started using gemstones in design after a break up with an ex. I was coming out of the subway station in DC and there was a man selling jewelry made of hematite. He told me that it helped to absorb anger. I said ‘I’ll take two!’. One day one of the necklaces broke, I went to a bead store and learned how to fix it. Incidentally, that was the start of me really getting into beading and refining my skills.”
3. What types of jewelry do you make and with what materials?
“I make beaded jewelry from genuine precious and semi-precious gemstones, silver and gold for the most part.”

4. Would you consider your jewelry to be worn on special occasions or every day?
“Both, they can be worn at work, with jeans and a fitted -t or to a black tie affair/special occasion. I am also working on a line specifically with brides in mind.”
5. What gives you inspiration?
“Music – it usually gives me an emotion to work with, be it energized, loving or victorious. My favorite artists to listen to when I’m working are Eric Roberson, Wayna, Raheem DeVaughn, Ryan Leslie to name a few. I’m also inspired by color combinations and the healing properties of the gemstones themselves. It gives a gemstone so much more value over a plastic to me.”
Wow! It is amazing what turn of events life can bring. In this case, it brought Anika a successful jewelry business. Thank you Anika for spending this time with us!
