I get so many questions from people seeking advice about design, how to’s and business questions. I decided to start this “Ask the Designer” series in hopes that some of your questions can be answered here.
Q. I want to make my event pop. How can I do this on a limited budget?
A. Focus on areas of your event that are highly visible to your guests such as your entryway, cake table, buffet table or escort card table. If you are having a formal wedding or celebration, use dramatic decor for the escort card table. Since this table will be a prelude to what your guests will experience at your event, this is the perfect location to showcase decor such as tall vases, alot of candles in various sizes, an old typewriter for the vintage celebration or you can even forego the actual table and use a tree to attach the guest names.
Another breathtaking view can be your cake table. This area of design is endless. A cake suspended front the ceiling. Yes, please! I’ve seen the pictures. Since a suspended cake may not be feasible for everyone, go for pin lighting, draping, sequin linen or all three. The possibilities are endless.
With one or two major elements of wow for your celebration, you are able to keep the other decor to a minimal with simple but elegant features. The simplicity of this decor can be achieved on a smaller budget.
I would love to hear how you have added a wow factor to your celebration.

I started a “ask me anything” series via Instagram a while back; it was a lot of fun; and very interactive. I love the suspended cake! I have seen some absolutely stunning ones! It’s such a beautiful element to add to the reception. I enjoyed this post looking forward to more in the near future!

great post – another idea is adding a projection monogram to your dance floor to add a bit of wow without breaking the bank!
Great ideas Tanza! These decor elements will definitely make any event pop. This is very helpful for newly engaged couples.
You and I think alike. I have a similar series in mind.
Great advice, lighting can add the wow factor as well, or as simple as your linens you use on your tables. If you can not afford to have show stopping linens on every table focus on your sweetheart table, the cake table, and the escort table as you have stated in your blog.
Totally agree with this post! Highlight certain elements such as the cake table!. I would add the table and sweetheart table too. You can keep the guest tables simple and glam up the sweetheart, head and cake tables!
These are great ideas. I would suggesting making sure you have something “different” so it becomes a talking point. Maybe it’s a candy buffet or action station. Whatever it is, give people something great to talk about and they will (even months later!).
Great ideas and advice. When you are working with a tight budget, you can’t have “over the top” everything. Pick a few eye catching items and place them in key, highly photographed spots.
