10 Tips to Remember When Selecting a Bridesmaid’s Dress

I was asked (not by a client) what’s the lead time for a bride to inform her bridesmaids about ordering their dresses?  My answer was 6-8 months to start looking would be ideal but no less than 4-5 months to order.  This timeline can significantly vary according to the boutique’s standard. Because of this, it is best to shop early. She had a horrid look on her face and with dismay said ” I just got an email that I needed to order my dress and have it paid for by Monday”  The Bride gave her one week to order and pay for her $240 dress.  I’m looking in disbelief but asked two questions.  “When is the wedding” and “does she have a wedding planner”?  Wedding is December of this year and no planner. Hmmm…this prompted me to write this blog post.

Hiring a wedding planner should be very high on the list but I’ll save that for another post.

I wanted to share with you “10 Tips to Remember When Selecting a Bridesmaid’s Dress.

1. Start searching for bridesmaids dresses at least 6-8 months before the wedding.

2. Bridesmaids should order their dresses at least 4-5 months before the wedding. This isn’t a hard fast rule because it truly depends on the dress boutique’s requirements.

3. Try to choose a dress that the ladies will be able to wear again for another event.

4. Select a dress that will go with the overall theme of your wedding.

5. Take everyone’s body shape into consideration when searching for a dress.  The latest trend is bridesmaids having the same color dress but different styles.

6. Look for designers in multiple cities. This will allow the possibility of those out-of-town being able to try on their dress instead of just relying on measurements.

7. Insist that measurements are taken by a professional tailor or seamstress.

8. Don’t forget to choose accessories that will compliment the dresses.

9. By all means, choose comfortable shoes. After all in most cases, the bridesmaids will be doing alot of standing.

10. It’s not mandatory that the bride pays for the bridesmaids dresses, although it is a good gesture.  Just be considerate of everyone’s budget when selecting a dress especially if each person will be responsible for paying for their own.

Blue Dawn

Blue has always been a favorite color of mine along with red and purple. What inspired this inspiration board? The picture of the beautiful blue sky that I found on Style Me Pretty.  When I saw this picture of the sky, the rich blue color stood out but the light from the house cast a glow that made me think BLING!  The entire picture brought about the feeling of happy times with family and friends.  There’s no other occasion to celebrate happy times with those you love than a wedding.  Thus, the Blue Dawn inspiration board was born…

Board created using circle.Style Me Pretty.Com.

What’s Your Diamond Personality?

I ran across this fun diamond personality test by Canada’s Diamond Coach extracted from: www.diamondcutterintl.com and “Diamonds, Love and Compatibility” by Paul Spero.  This test was meant for fun but it is quite interesting as I have a Marquise shaped wedding ring and the Marquise diamond personality fits me to the tee.  What’s your diamond personality?

DIAMOND PERSONALITIES

If you chose a ROUND diamond shape, your personality reveals that you are faithful, traditional, dependable, religious, old-fashioned and honest with your values. You are home and family oriented and security conscious. The down-side is your lack of spontaneity. Your personality is easy to get along with!

If you chose an OVAL diamond shape, you are creative, well-organized, dependable and wiling to take chances. Your strongest desire is to be different and not go with the crowd. You have a wildstreak, yet you are predictable, stable and be counted on!

If you selected the SQUARE princess cut, you have an electric personality. You are fun, exciting and definitely not afraid to take chances. You live life to the fullest. You love being the center of attention and absolutely adore the spotlight!

If you are drawn to the EMERALD cut diamond shape, you are a tough nut to crack. You love to impress others. One of your greatest characteristic is that you do not se yourself through the eyes of others. You are a natural born leader with a quiet elegance and regal temperament.

If you chose the MARQUISE shaped diamond, you have a socialite attitude. You are extroverted, innovative and exciting to be around. But, you tend to be concerned with first impressions. You are goal oriented and career minded!

If you are attracted to the HEART shaped diamond, you are a pure romantic. Your motto is love conquers all and it has no restrictions or boundaries. You are constantly searching for love. You are a dramatic dreamer. Your wonderful traits is that you are sentimental, creative, sensitive and can be trusted!

Vintage Inspired Reception

I saw this wall display in a store a few months ago.  Wow!  What an awesome way to showcase your engagement pictures.  If your venue allows wall/ceiling hangings, this display is perfect for a vintage inspired wedding reception. To add your own special touch,  decorate the ladder with flowers that compliment your wedding and place an antique sideboard, buffet or desk underneath to hold the place cards.  Feeling bold – leave the rustic look of the ladder without decor.

Something Old

Something new, something borrowed, something blue…..what about the tradition of something old?  Have you raided your grandmother’s jewelry box and found beautiful antique brooches?    We never thought about making these into bridal bouquets but Heirloom Blooms has done just that. These bouquets are a way to add a little of “grandma” into the wedding and covers the “something old” tradition. No bouquet toss for these bejeweled masterpieces.
